XSound Remote Control Racer
Product Review (submitted on November 25, 2012):
This toy is fairly well constructed and it can really move pretty quickly if you've got a large space (say 50' x 50') to run it in (it can easily top 10 mph, that's not a scale speed, so it eats up distance pretty quickly). There's very little ground clearance, so you'll want a smooth indoor surface to run it on.
Speakers: Yes, there are 4 speakers inside this car that play sound effects and rudimentary musical sound.
Controls: Not a proportional RC control system, controls are either full on or off; RC system is not very robust (operates in the US Class D citizen's band, around 27.145 MHz).
Caution: This car has a bizarre "self destruct" mode, that's the only way of describing it. Pushing the square button on the LEFT side of the RC remote control engages this mode. Pushing this button causes the car to emit engine revving sounds for a few seconds...then it will take off ON ITS OWN at FULL SPEED and there's NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP IT. Indoors the car will probably find a wall to crash into. Two examples of this car were found to have the same "feature." (Think we'll just name this thing 'Christine.') The "self destruct" mode may also randomly engage itself even when the the fatal left button is not pressed. Good feature for the maker - - "Mommy, my car just smashed itself to smithereens, can I have a new one?"
